I refused to be demoted: is it an error?
Hello, I received without notice nor explanation a modification of my work contract where they included another change: they demoted me from the most senior position to the one just below it. I was in that position since I signed my initial work contract several years ago.
When I refused to sign it and asked for more information, my chief told me HR is modifying everyone position because there was many errors and that the new position is the one I should have always been in.
My chief made me understand that I'm the only one that refuse to be demoted, but no way for me to accept that without any form or explanation.
After some digging it seems to be related to a new EU law arriving next month in my country: salaries from the same position will have to be aligned with less than 5% difference.
Am I the asshole here?
