5+ years of building software and never needed a website
My friends and I have been building software for the last 5+ years mostly through referrals and repeat clients. We’ve worked on all kinds of stuff over the years like websites, apps, Shopify stores, dashboards, automations, inventory management systems, backend tools, AI workflows and custom internal systems for businesses.
Funny thing is we never really cared about building an online presence for ourselves. No polished agency website, no content strategy, nothing like that. Most work just kept coming through word of mouth so we focused more on building than marketing ourselves.
Now we’re trying to take that side more seriously and connect with more long term projects outside our existing circle.
Also feels like the industry is changing a lot now with AI tools making development faster and cheaper, but honestly the hard parts still feel hard. Good architecture, scaling, debugging production issues, security, understanding real business requirements, all that still matters a lot.
We’re also not the type to disappear midway through projects or outsource everything after the first call. If we take something up, we actually work on it properly and stay involved till it’s done.
Curious how other people here approached this phase. What actually helped you build a strong online presence or attract better clients and projects consistently?
