Engine Light, Traction Control, and Power Steering Lights On U0101 TCM Communication Error
When I start my car, the engine light, traction control light, and power steering light all come on. This has happened 4 or 5 times since it first started in 2025. Previously, it would either resolve on its own, or an OBD scan at O'Reilly's would clear it. Another time, my mom disconnected the battery, pressed the brake while it was disconnected, then reconnected it and that fixed it. This time, none of those methods have worked.
Car Background: My car has almost 111,000 miles and is regularly maintained. I bought it used at 85,000 miles when I was 17, and I'm 21 now. It's had past issues with an O2 sensor, leaking oil/coolant, and changed water pump, all of which have been replaced. At this point, we've put way too much money into this car, more than we ever expected to, and it feels like every fix just leads to another problem. There is also a constant U0101 code indicating no communication with the TCM (Transmission Control Module).
Current Symptoms: When started, the engine jerks slightly, almost like it wants to jump out. When put in reverse, it jerks violently and the backup camera stops working. It drives very slowly, almost like it's stuck in a limp/safe mode, and the doors randomly lock and unlock on their own. I've been driving with my hazard lights on so other drivers know to go around me.
My goal is to get it running reliably enough for temporary transportation while I look for something more dependable. Any advice is appreciated!
