Am I overreacting? (Travel)

Hey guys, so our Cruze is supposed to take us 100 miles over a 2 hour trip to visit family next week and then take us home. I’m paranoid that something will go wrong, because the last time we went was Christmas.

Since the last trip we had a coolant leak that was supposedly fixed but it’s still leaking oil/possibly still coolant somewhere else because we still smell it and still see the smoke after it’s been running a while.

Am I over reacting by being worried and anxious about it? We’ll take back roads and the drive is fairly easy (quite a bit of “take your foot off the gas and “Cruze” haha). We just got an oil change and are going to have a full tank of gas, so I’m hoping that all will be okay?

For note: it’s a 2013 with 125k miles. Many issues other than oil leak, the most prominent being the service stabilitrak warning kicking on every five seconds

Just as I pulled into my parking spot at work yesterday...

In the last 30k miles I have replaced every coolant hose, most of the oil lines, water pump/thermostat, fuel pump, fuel injectors, serpentine belt, brake pads, and probably 10 fuses/relays.

2013 Cruze LTZ 1.4l turbo daily driver. About 500 miles a week commuting and she still pulls 34 mpg average.

Just a girl with a Cruze.

okay..so I have a Chevy cruze 2014. I recently had a problem with my reservoir it cracked at the bottom. Well I replaced it..and it was fine for two weeks. yesterday I was driving home and it said my car was overheating I turned it off looked under the hood and again..no coolant. So I filled it up once the car cooled down and it literally just disappeared in 5 minutes. I found it was leaking at the clamp so I replaced that. I started the car this morning and I noticed a puddle right at the bottom driver side. I don’t see any hose leaking just this fast paced drip. I have no idea what’s going on.

Sun visor mirror cover replacement?

Hey gang,
My 2017 cruze just had the mirror cover break off on me on the drivers side visor. Pulled the visor down one day to block the sun and the cover fell on my lap. Was wondering if I can just replace that part or am I gonna have to get a whole new visor? So ready to get rid of this car lol

Replacing the oil cooler on my 2013 1.8 Cruze. Theres the hole with the arrow pointed at it, the old gasket has the hole. the new one doesnt. Anvone know what that hole might be for? And it necessary to have a matching hole on the gasket? Also if its necessary what can I make the hole with that won't mess up the integrity of the gasket. Thanks in advance

Gen 2 rubber floor mats lol

Does anyone know where I could get these floor mats? I can’t seem to find them anywhere online in stock, I think they’d go great with my silver gen 2 rs redline hatchback.

2014 Chevy Cruze 1.4 eco turbo suspected TCM issues

Engine Light, Traction Control, and Power Steering Lights On U0101 TCM Communication Error

When I start my car, the engine light, traction control light, and power steering light all come on. This has happened 4 or 5 times since it first started in 2025. Previously, it would either resolve on its own, or an OBD scan at O'Reilly's would clear it. Another time, my mom disconnected the battery, pressed the brake while it was disconnected, then reconnected it and that fixed it. This time, none of those methods have worked.

Car Background: My car has almost 111,000 miles and is regularly maintained. I bought it used at 85,000 miles when I was 17, and I'm 21 now. It's had past issues with an O2 sensor, leaking oil/coolant, and changed water pump, all of which have been replaced. At this point, we've put way too much money into this car, more than we ever expected to, and it feels like every fix just leads to another problem. There is also a constant U0101 code indicating no communication with the TCM (Transmission Control Module).

Current Symptoms: When started, the engine jerks slightly, almost like it wants to jump out. When put in reverse, it jerks violently and the backup camera stops working. It drives very slowly, almost like it's stuck in a limp/safe mode, and the doors randomly lock and unlock on their own. I've been driving with my hazard lights on so other drivers know to go around me.

My goal is to get it running reliably enough for temporary transportation while I look for something more dependable. Any advice is appreciated!

Check engine light is on but mechanics can’t figure out the issue

So I’ve got a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze Limited LT. For about two months now the check engine light has been on but mechanics can’t find anything wrong with the car. It was driving normally until a couple weeks ago it felt like it was backfiring while running idle. Want to add the check engine light and backfiring feeling has been inconsistent, on a few days, then off a couple, and back on again. The mechanics see in the car's computer history that there were codes regarding the engine but can’t find anything actively going on with the car. The car's been at a Chevrolet dealership service for a week now, they say that although the check engine light remains on the car is running normally.

Really just looking to see if anyone has advice or experienced something similar before? I haven’t found anything online indicating it but wonder if this is a familiar issue with my car’s model. The mechanics have been keeping me in the loop, been performing tests and driving it around trying to get the car to show any sign of active issues but debating if it’s worth bringing to a different garage/dealership service or if they would be in the same conundrum. Thank you!

2012 1.4 broken serpentine belt.

This may actually be the last straw with this car.

Why in the world would you make a car that you have to remove the engine mounts to replace a belt?

Over 10 years 3 water pumps, every plastic bit of crap on the coolant loop replaced twice,More oil leaks than I can even count.

Why should I bother?

2017 Cruze wouldn’t turn back on after auto start was initiated

I have a 2017 Chevy Cruze lt that has about 136k miles on it. I recently had the battery replaced, radio replaced (the screen turned black and never turned back on), transmission fluid changed, and oil changed all in the last 2.5 months. This car is driving me nuts.

Anyways, I was recently driving and came to a stop at a red light. The auto start/stop engaged. Light turns green and I lift my foot off the brake. The engine didn’t turn on but the dash and radio were still on. I put it in park, turned off the car, turned it back on and it thankfully worked and I was able to make it home. No error codes or lights popped up on the dash. Anyone else run into this before? I’m losing my mind lol.

Gen 2 Cruze (2019) with P0171 Issues

Hi all,

I have a 2019 Cruze with the Gen 2 engine (120k miles). It’s been throwing P0171 codes intermittently for about a year now. Doing a bit of research including reading the automod, it seems like only the Gen 1 Cruzes are supposed to have this issue, and all the videos or instructional material I find online mostly address Gen 1 hardware issues.

I will say that the issue started maybe a year ago after an oil change where the guy apparently damaged my MAF sensor while changing my air filter and I had a really underpowered car for a day until I took it back to them and they replaced the MAF for free, but since then it still comes up occasionally or has underperformance issues. It really only comes up when I let the car idle, otherwise it rides smooth once it gets up to speed. I use premium fuel, do regular oil changes, etc but haven’t changed out stuff like the spark plugs yet but I plan to once I get more confidence that I won’t break them, hah.

Does anyone have any ideas on what causes this in a Gen 2 Cruze and/or advice on how to approach this? I do plan to try to replace the MAF sensor, but I’m not super confident this is the root cause but don’t really have the funds to pay for full diagnostics. Thanks in advance for the help.

Coolant reservoir major issue!

Ahh here we go again.
My 2011 Chevy Cruzes coolant reservoir can’t hold any coolant. This just happened literally 30 minutes ago. I see a whole bunch of smoke coming from my car. I pull over and all of my coolant is gone. Mind you it was full yesterday. I poured more coolant and it drained immediately. Wtf. I hate/love this car. Please tell me what I should do before I go calling around for mechanics.

Serpentine belt failure

I have a 2014 LTZ with the normal 1.4L ecotec engine and ~180,000 miles. I just replaced the valve cover and did the Cruze kits pcv fix within the last few days, and replaced a leaking coolant reservoir and the AC compressor about 5 weeks ago.

Today my serpentine belt shredded while driving 70mph on the interstate. Any suggestions for things to check to determine if something other than standard wear is what killed the belt? And anything I need to check for damage after the belt failed at highway speeds? How I noticed something was wrong was the overheat warning, and I immediately got to the shoulder and turned off the car within 15 seconds or so. It did leak what seemed to be a larger than typical amount of oil on the side of the highway while I was waiting for a tow. I'm wondering if the crankshaft seal blew out as I've seen in some other posts and YouTube videos.

Thanks in advance!

Update: the crankshaft seal had fully blown out; it came out wedged onto the harmonic balancer instead of needing to be pulled out from the crankshaft opening. The tensioner pin had also broken. I replaced the crankshaft seal, the serpentine belt, and the serpentine tensioner.

Tensioner - $33 from Amazon: https://a.co/d/0d5nkuLP Serpentine belt - $19 with coupon from Advance: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/carquest-standard-serpentine-belt-55.1-long-5-rib-count-551k5/50164452 Crankshaft seal - ~$10 with coupon from Advance: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/national-engine-crankshaft-seal-711024/12229771 (All $ in USD)

The hardest part by far was getting the harmonic balancer bolt out. It took a handful of rounds of using my impact wrench at the highest psi my little 6 gallon pancake compressor could get to (150 psi). Eventually it broke free and everything from there went pretty smoothly.

Brothers in Cruze, trying to install a CruzeKit on my 2013 1.8 liter Cruze

Hey fellow Cruze enthusiasts! So, you know that moment when you think, "Hey, I'll just install a cruzekit—how hard can it be?"

Step one: Find a kit that says it’s compatible... This is how far I have made it lol I'm just hoping someone can explain to me what I should do exactly if I suspect the valve cover needs replaced and in what order? If there even is a cruzekit for the 1.8? Do I do them both at the same time or does it matter? Errmm other than that, any other 1.8 Cruze wizards out there with tips or war stories? 😐

Timing chain, Oil pan/turbo/oil chain cost

I brought my car in after getting an “engine hot AC off” message and they told me the water pump and thermostat housing is the biggest issue but the above mentions repairs are much needed as well. I could only afford the water pump and the thermostat and now I’m wondering what a reasonable price to fix the rest in. This car is endless issues 😭

Door Locks not Locking from Pressing the Button on Handle

Hey all, looking for some wisdom on this weird issue Im having. Gen 2 2017 Cruze only 65,000 miles. When Im trying to lock the car with the door handle buttons it makes the mechanical locking sound and the pin tries to move down but very slightly not into the full locking position. When I open the door after trying to lock it and it failing the alarm does go off so the car knows it should be locked. I can push the pin in manually or use the interior door panel buttons to lock the car and they work fine.

Tldr: Door handle button not locking car but making mechanical sound like should be locking

What can be done?

This vehicle came from a state that dealt with bad winters and the body is starting to fall apart. Literally. Is there anything to cover this? I actually have the piece that fell off, but was hoping there was something that could be done that want too expensive. Any ideas? I appreciate the help.
