Do u guys replace your brakes?
Rotors 150k
Pads 110k
Brakes still stop the car but they’ve gotten worse. I’m doing the brakes before winter, but wear wise they look to have more than half their life left 😮

I have a ‘16 first gen. No whistling or engine codes, but when I remove dipstick while engine is running I get a whistling sound. I’m going to look for the orange check valve tonight. Assuming the orange check valve is visible should I just replace the valve cover? If the check valve is still in the intake manifold I am not sure how I can install the fix kit… so should I just do the valve cover, just the fix kit, or both? (I also do have a Dorman valve cover that has been installed for about 4 years planned to buy another one.
We are looking at a 2019 with 64k miles. It appears from car fax that the normal service intervals have been done by a local dealer:
8k -B1
13k-B1
18k-B1,2,6
25k-B1 (plus fuel system flush)
32k- B1,3,7
35k- B1,2
40k-B1
46k-B1,6
50K-B1 (plus brakes and battery)
51k (starter replaced, intake manifold gasket replaced)
56K-B1,7
62K-B1,2
64K-A
Essentially oil and filter every 5k, air cleaner roughly every 20k, rear differential fluid twice, brake fluid twice, transmission fluid once
I am concerned the timing belt may be close to needing replaced. Any thoughts on that service interval?
Do you guys think that the normal maintenance issues with the green 1 cruzes are more of a time bombs or mile bombs? For instance do you think that cooling issues will come up faster if you put on more miles or is it just a bi annual issue that’s just gonna happen? I wad just wondering what others think about it…
I had asked for advice on sand driving previously and got some good responses, but on the tire option nothing specific to the Kraton 4s v2.5.
Paddle tires are JConcepts Animal part number 4175-39812. These an identical size to the stock tires. I had looked into some other ones but because of the 1/9 scale: 1/10 wheels are too small to clear the suspension and 1/8 tires are too big unless a smaller pinion is used.
I have upgraded my ESC to a 150A firma unit (wanting to keep the smart functions mostly for battery monitoring). I am unsure if the original 130A unit would have kept up, but I had 0 overheating issues with the esc and I was ripping hard on a 6800 120c battery and later a 5000 50c battery.
The stock motor that I am still running got so hot after the first battery I had to let it sit with fans running for 20 minutes to cool it off. I do have a Rocket RC fan installed. (I probably hurt the motor to some degree with running it so hot, but I was there and the dunes were fun 😂)
Lastly the sand was awesome! I also tried driving at the beach (fresh water from Great Lakes), but the beach was so much rougher from people walking on it and the sand was far more moist making it stick to more places. The dunes at silver lake the sand was super fine and just falls right off everything. The only causalities the truck took was a center diff bearing is about to go out and the rear half of the chassis got sandblasted including the red anodized shocks.
Overall extremely fun, just plan to do a teardown afterwards to check bearings and blow out center gearbox.
I have a kraton 4s v2.5. Only a couple months old. Is this amount of slop in the ring gear acceptable/ normal?
I am going on a trip near some sand dunes and plan to bring my 4s Kraton along. I’m running stock pinion (13T I think) and stock tires which are 3.8” wheel/ 6” overall. I am thinking of getting paddle tires but I’m afraid it will force it to overheat. Most 3.8” wheel paddle tires at close to 7” overall. I don’t know if 2.8” wheels will work. Any suggestions on what size wheel and if I should change pinion?
