No Statement - Help
Hi all
I've been with British Gas for 12 months with my tariff due to be changed in the next couple of weeks.
During my year with them I have never received a statement. I'm regularly paying my direct debit (c. £200 a month) and my account is showing as being in considerable credit (due to never receiving an actual statement/bill), so my credit only ever increases.
I've flagged this with British Gas a few times to be told it will be looked into and resolved within a few days. It never is.
Can anyone explain
A) does the back billing rule apply here if I don't get a statement by the end of the month (when I'm over 12 months)? I think it might but not sure with having enough in my account to cover any statements
B) can I cancel my direct debit? I'd like to start paying into my own savings account (that I won't touch) so I can at least earn interest on my money rather than it being locked away by British Gas. I can then use this to pay if British Gas ever chase.
C) with my tariff ending I'm looking at where best to go. If British Gas continue to be inept and the back billing rule applies I think it makes sense to stay with them, even though they're not the cheapest. Have I assumed this correctly?
Thanks for any insight
