My partner is significantly older than I am, and he's been laid off recently. He works in a field where there aren't a lot of jobs in the area of our small city. We're in a higher cost of living area.

He hasn't been able to find a job in his field in the past few months on unemployment, which is running out fast. So he applied for a job in his field that's at least (with traffic) 1.5 hours commute each way. All highway.

He's had two rounds of interviews for this job and will probably be offered it and the pay is terrible for someone his age, $50K a year. Which seems suspicious, because it's a VERY high cost of living area where this job is. So already, I'm thinking, this will be a terrible employer.

His dad had heart disease and died at 52, which age my partner is fast approaching.

My partner also has heart disease and takes medication for it, but he vapes and eats terribly and never exercises. At his last job, which was pretty low stress and a short commute, he would get chest pains and scare the crap out of me.

I begged my partner to please not take this job because the commute, the stress, the cost of gas, and the idea of him getting chest pains/heart attack on the drive home from work and dying on the highway has me intensely stressed.

He refuses to listen to me. He wants to stay in his field so badly that he's willing to take this low paying job with a huge commute.

I told him it'd be better to even just take a part time job locally thats not in his field to pay his basic bills, and keep looking for a better job in his field that's not far away.

We can't move because we can't afford an apartment where this potential new job is.

He is so upset at the idea of taking a job outside of his field that he refuses to even consider it. He is dead set on taking the job 1.5 hours away if they offer it to him.

I can't tell him what to do, I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone else has had experience with such a long commute.
