So I haven't been invited to my mother's house in over seven years. She claims its because she's embarrassed that the house is a mess and her dogs are too uncontrollable. But it doesn't take seven years to clean a house no matter how messed up it is and her dogs can go outside when im there. We've been meeting twice a year or so around Christmas and my birthday to get together. But when me meet around Christmas, for example, it'll always be after Christmas has already passed and its just my mom, two sisters, and my stepfather exchanging gifts with me. Implying they've already exchanged gifts with each other at another time.
I've confronted her directly and I told her I don't believe her excuses anymore and explicitly said I don't care what the house looks like. This was around my birthday in June. She claimed she was absolutely not lying to me that I was right to be suspicious and she would start working on getting the house cleaned up. Then in October I text her 'Happy birthday, did you ever clean the house?" She thanked me for wishing her happy birthday and completely ignored the question about cleaning the house. On Christmas she text me Merry Christmas and I didn't respond. Am I overacting?
