How important is the UCAS reference really?

I really need advice because I’m genuinely stressed 😭

I’m applying through UCAS for Architecture (Bachelor’s) at Manchester Metropolitan University, and my teacher/referee is not replying to me at all. I need a reference but I’m basically being ignored.

My question is: can I still submit my application without the reference first? And will this seriously affect my chances of getting accepted?

I have a very strong portfolio, so I’m wondering if the portfolio can make up for the missing reference or if the reference is extremely important.

Has anyone been in a similar situation before? Could universities reject me just because of this?

Please someone reply because I’m honestly panicking
