I’ve got a couple questions regarding the differences between an 18D and a Ranger Medic. I’d like to preface by saying that from my understanding the 18D is a more well rounded medic due to their extra training. I also know that the mission sets are different (DA vs UW)

My question is, which one is more of an operator? I know that the Ranger’s bread and butter is direct action but does a Ranger Medic also specialize in Direct Action? Or are they more of just a support? Furthermore, how does a 18D differentiate from that? Do they do more trigger pulling/operator style things on top of being a medic?

I’m curious as to what one is more of an operator so that I can narrow down what it is that I want to try and pursue.

Hey,

I’m about to ship out here soon and have had a change of heart. I want to pursue Special Operations, so I’m wondering if a path to the 75th is feasible after returning from training?

I’m aware that this will require getting a release from the State to then go Active Duty. I’m also under the impression that an Option 40 isn’t something Prior service can obtain. Realistically, can someone help me understand how I can make this change after I return to my unit from training? Specifically with getting the go ahead to flip active as well as what to ask for on an active duty contract since Option 40 isn’t available if I chose to do so?
