My first Omega

I’ve become an avid collector of vintage watches. Most of my vintage buys have a story, but Omega is such a great company I didn’t need one — just found this at the right time and very right price. This one goes in my daily rotation (and in the watch winder). First one down, many more to go!

So a vintage MuDu is not high on anyone’s collection list but I’m enchanted by its history as a “smuggler’s watch” back in the 50s and 60s. Maybe the thought of a young Conrad and Maeve (characters from “Mobland” played by Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren) arguing with each other over the pricing of these goods that they smuggled in from the Continent overwhelmed my good sense (even though it was, admittedly, a steal at auction). By the way Mobland is terrific, headlined by Tom Hardy - check it out and think of their criminal beginnings with these watches. I do.

Another auction find of mine last year. Just had it serviced by my neighborhood (and friend) watchmaker and it now runs like silk (it had a minor - not fatal, but irritating — winding issue). I love collecting these older moonphase chronos and working up the funds to get my grails — an Omega Cosmic or a JLC triple calendar of 40s or 50s vintage.
