A neighbor friend went into assisted living earlier this year and was an avid gardener. She had switched to container gardening so she had me take as many containers as I wanted. I took several that still had soil.

She was the "Dahlia Lady" of the neighborhood. She said a family member took all of her Dahlias.

I didn't empty the soil out of this pot because I could see what looked like a very pruned plant in it and I wanted to see what it was.

This is what has exploded out of the pot.

I found a piece of plastic in the pot that says "Cherry Drop."

Newbie - Pests Are Eating Blueberry Leaves

I am actually pretty much an edible garden newbie.

We have 2 blueberry plants, both in large planters.

The one with the least amount of leaf damage was the bush we bought a year ago.
The one with the most leaf damage is the one we bought last fall.

I found 1 tiny green caterpillar in March after I noticed a hole in a leaf on the newest bush. There were no more holes or other leaf damage until now.

Last Tuesday, a crew came out and replaced an old rotting wood retaining wall with a taller block wall and created a planting bed where these will be transplanted behind the retaining wall for me. They just finished yesterday. They disturbed a lot of ground and used about 4.5 cubic yards of 3-way mix topsoil.

When I thoroughly checked the bushes this evening, I noticed multiple holes and multiple leaves that have been eaten. I didn't notice them before the work started.

I tried doing searches to see what may be causing the damage but am not sure if I'm finding the correct culprits. It seems like I keep getting conflicting info with each site I visit.

I've looked under leaves and at stems and branch junctions.

- Are flea beetles responsible for the holes? The holes range from tiny to quite large.
- Are caterpillars eating the leaves from the edges in?

Both bushes have already set fruit on them.

In Beaverton.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

I am in the Portland, OR metro area.
We had an extremely mild winter with no freeze at all.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
