IT band pain advice?

I’ve been consistently running since January, and lately my IT band has been pretty painful. It mainly hurts not during my runs, but when I’m walking in my day-to-day, especially going up or down stairs. But during runs at the start it hurts and then it feels better when I hit my stride. I have my first 10k in under a month and I’m still working up to the distance (can comfortably do 7k atm) so I don’t want to stop running. Does anyone have advice for what I can do?
