I often hear that drawing the skin tones of POC characters in a more grayish way is considered racist, and I don’t really understand why. Is it considered just as bad if you use grayish tones for lighter-skinned characters too?

I’m Asian, and in my art I generally use more muted, grayish tones, including for skin. I use these tones for everyone I draw, whether they’re white or POC. I don’t want to come across as rude in this post—I’m genuinely trying to understand why this is seen as a problem, and whether the tones I use could also be considered problematic.

I’m really curious about this, and of course, if it is an issue, I’m willing to stop using grayish tones for skin. I’ll also attach the colors I usually use for my characters, just in case.
