Daytime ceremony + Evening reception
Okay so this is not about a specific outfit, I hope that’s okay.
We’ve been invited to a wedding that’s at 2:30 pm at a Catholic cathedral, and then an evening reception at a banquet hall at 7 pm.
We live about an hour away and with the long gap we’ve decided to get a hotel.
I have a perfect formal dress, but it’s very much an evening dress and I would feel weird wearing it to a church at 2:30 pm in the middle of summer.
Is it appropriate in this situation to wear more “dressy-church” to the ceremony and then glitz up at the hotel for the evening reception, or does formal dress code mean formal all day? I just anticipate feeling kind of gross, wrinkly and over it if I’m in formal clothes, full makeup, hair done, etc for 7 hours before the reception even begins.
This is new to me because I’ve never been to a wedding with a gap like this as a regular guest vs wedding party. thanks in advance for any feedback!
