Hey guys. I see lots of posts concerning looksmaxxing and I’m not really here for that. Functionally I believe there’s something wrong with my jaw but I don’t know how to fight for my care as my teeth are pretty naturally aligned already. My concern is airway based, I’ve always had to breath out of my mouth and I’ve been trying to focus on nose breathing since I found out it’s not good for you and go in and out of it as I feel like I’m suffocating with it sometimes. I don’t typically have a clogged nose or allergies. I’m a back sleeper and my jaw slides backwards as I sleep according to my partner. I have clicking and popping in my right TMJ and wake up with soreness and pain. I initially thought this was due to teeth grinding but a mouth guard to prevent damage from grinding made the pain so much worse. I’ve been reading in this Reddit and have realized a lot of my food aversions and choking on food specifically thick foods like yoghurt might be attributed to this. I’ve been trying to correct my posture lately but I wonder if it’s compressing my airway more leading to my light headedness when I do. I also often times wake up with dry mouth and a sore throat. I suspect my pallate may be narrow as my tongue naturally has to squeeze in between my teeth to close it and sometimes I wake up with bite marks on the edges of my teeth.
Are these all indications of needing DJS even though I don’t have a misaligned bite or crowded teeth? I have an appointment with an ortho I used to work with and I’m concerned he may not agree with or see these issues. My insurance is ending in 8 months and I’m feeling pressure and time to figure this out asap. Any advice on candidacy and routes to figure this out would be so appreciated! I’ve been stressing myself out a lot about the insurance aspect this the past few days.
