Occupational Therapist (Pre-K School Setting)
Location: Bronx, NY
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM (6.5 hours/day, 30-minute unpaid lunch)
Open to candidates available 4 days/week
Assignment Dates: July 6 – August 14 (6-week summer program, ~30 hours/week)
Potential opportunity to continue into the school year
Compensation: $60/hr w2, commensurate on experience
About the School
A nonprofit educational organization serving students who are blind or visually impaired, as well as children with emotional, learning, and developmental disabilities. The Bronx campus supports approximately 126 students in a specialized Pre-K program.
Position Overview
The Occupational Therapist works under the supervision of the Principal or Assistant Principal to provide therapeutic services to preschool students (ages 3–5). This role focuses on supporting students’ developmental, functional, and educational goals through individualized and group occupational therapy services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct evaluations using standardized assessments, observations, and interviews to determine student needs
- Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans
- Provide therapy services in accordance with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to support student progress
- Write and maintain IEPs, progress reports, and required documentation
- Participate in team meetings, program planning, and staffings
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies for home support
- Integrate therapy goals into the broader educational program
- Maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes
- Order, adapt, or create specialized equipment as needed
- Provide training and support to staff on therapy-related strategies
- Participate in intake processes and professional development activities
Caseload
- Approximately 45 sessions per week
- ~9 sessions per day
- Each session: 30 minutes
Qualifications
- New graduates welcome
- At least 1 year of experience in a school setting (DOE experience preferred)
- Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
- Active New York State Occupational Therapy license
