Porter Airlines has some of the most incompetent, inflexible, and useless customer service staff I’ve ever encountered.

I was denied boarding because my ticket said “Jeff” instead of “Jeffrey.” Apparently Porter thinks dropping three letters from a first name means you become a completely different person. I showed them multiple pieces of ID, including IDs that literally show I go by “Jeff,” plus additional backup documents proving it was me. My legal name IS Jeffrey — Jeff is just the shortened version I use everywhere. Any normal person with basic common sense could understand that. Porter employees apparently could not.

Instead of helping, the staff just repeated scripted policy lines like robots and claimed they “couldn’t change anything in the system.” No effort to solve the issue. No attempt to help a paying customer. Just lazy, rigid incompetence that caused me to miss my flight entirely.

Then somehow the experience got even worse. They also refused to make ANY changes to my return flight that was still a week away — even though I offered to pay every fee required. At that point it became obvious the employees simply didn’t care and were more interested in saying “no” than actually doing their jobs.

When I asked to speak to a customer service manager, I was basically brushed off and told they couldn’t provide one. That tells you everything about how this airline operates.

Meanwhile, the two airlines I booked with afterward both said shortened names like this are extremely common and usually never an issue. I also flew with Air Canada using the exact same shortened version of my name two weeks earlier with absolutely no problem whatsoever.

Porter loves pretending they’re some premium airline, but in reality they’re disorganized, painfully incompetent, and completely incapable of handling simple customer service situations with any level of professionalism or common sense. I’ll gladly spend more money flying with WestJet or literally anyone else from now on.
