Lifetime Weber Kettle griller here (M42). Weber grills are the only thing I've ever used. When I was a kid, my dad always taught me to build the pyramid, add the lighter fluid, and throw a match, wait for the coals to start, and level them off when they are cherry red. He was an early adopter of the Performer series with the propane ignition. For all I know, he may have the 1st generation, because it had the small dedicated tank, not the disposables. When I bought my house, he bought me a Permormer for my housewarming present. It's going on 8 years old now.

I guess my point is this, somehow I missed the launch in popularity of starter chimneys and baskets. Baskets were even included with my Performer! They are still brand new and never been used.

Are there any believers out there that can prove to me how baskets and chimneys are better than the old fashioned pyramid stack?

PS, I basically only grill chicken, burgers, brats, and steaks.
