Confused: 23, ACCA done, CFA L1/L2 soon. Should I grind work ex or go straight for CAT?

Hey guys, need some honest perspective on my profile and timeline.

I’m 23 right now(full time student), cleared ACCA, and currently have about 6 months of work ex. My past academics (10th/12th/UG) are honestly on the weaker side. On the bright side, I’m tracking to clear CFA Level 1 and Level 2 by the time I turn 24.

I’m stuck between two strategies and could use some advice:

Strategy 1: Focus entirely on building 2-3 years of solid core finance experience first (looking at FP&A, valuation, IB support, boutique consulting, or wealth mgmt.) and then give CAT a serious shot for IIMs/top b-schools.

Strategy 2: Go straight for CAT preparation right now alongside my CFA, and try to enter a top program as a fresher by 24-25(or with minimal work ex).

My biggest worry with Strategy 2 is the short-listed criteria and finals placements. Even if I manage a killer CAT score and convert a good college based on professional certifications, will my weak past acads + low work ex haunt me during SIPs and final placements for front-end finance roles?

If you've been in a similar boat or are currently at an IIM, what would you realistically suggest?

Really appreciate you giving the time to read this❤️
