There are lots of posts & comments about which episodes are the best & which are the worst. But since expectations largely frame experience, I thought getting feedback on these questions might help give folks a list of episodes they would enjoy outside their comfort zones -- and which ones they should maybe lower the bar on going into.
For me, the Satanic Government/Franklin Cover-up series is a pleasant surprise. It's early in LPOTL history but the boys seem to do a fair bit of research compared to their other series from that era. It's also a fascinating story that has become wildly more relevant in the years since it came out & has more than a few gold star moments for anyone looking for that sort of fix.
Biggest letdown for me was probably The Bath School Massacre. It's not even so the boys fault really (although Ben is long past his prime in this one) but more an issue of the subject. I'd always thought this proto-mass school killing event would be a great topic to dive into but it turns out it's just a cut & dry case of an extremely mean-spirited asshole being an extremely mean-spirited asshole. In short, both the villain & his motivations are boring - which makes the tragedy itself even more depressing and the episode a major letdown for anyone (like me) who went in with high expectations.
