Youth of May was one of my first Kdramas where I learned about the Gwangu Uprising and how pivotal a moment it was in Korean history.
This led me to read Human Acts by Han Kang and also watch A Taxi Driver (highly recommend both)!
Any recommendations for dramas with real historical events?
Ones I have watched so far/know of - Pachinko, Mr Sunshine, The Red Sleeve.
We all have plenty of examples of Kdramas that lose the plot in the second half, or start dragging or have some last minute chaos and a rushed final episode.
So let's talk about the ones that have amazing writing throughout, as well as a satisfying conclusion, with most threads wrapped up.
My picks are - Our Movie, Way Back Love, Light Shop, The Red Sleeve, Our Unwritten Seoul, My Mister, The Glory and this might be controversial - Twenty Five Twenty One. Yes the ending is widely disliked, but it felt like closure to me.
Why do so many Kdramas that start and pace so well, fall apart at the penultimate episode? So rare to see one that actually wraps up well 🥲
Currently on my 8th rewatch of Crash Landing On You after a rough week, this drama is so comforting! Love how sassy Yoon Seri is 😄
Which currently airing dramas are you guys enjoying the most?
Perfect Crown
Filing for Love
We Are All Trying Here
My Royal Nemesis
Scarecrow
As someone who has struggled with mental health disorders, the sensitivity and realism with which this drama approached it, made me cry and feel seen! I thought they did an amazing job, the visualizations of panic attacks/ depression with the cages, quicksand, drowning were on point.
On the other hand , the romance put me off, both male leads (the doctors) felt overbearing and pushy, and consent was a blurry concept.
Overall I am glad the show focused more on the stories of the patients and nurses, I just wish the romance arcs were handled as well.
What did you all think? Any similar dramas you would recommend?
Ones I have already watched that gave me similar vibes were Tomorrow, My Mister, My Liberation Notes, Move To Heaven, Our Unwritten Seoul

I love depictions of female friendships that feel real in Kdramas, with conflict, history, loyalty, the kind where you believe these characters have actually known each other for years. Some of my favorites are :
2521 - Na Hee Do and Ko Yu Rim
You and Everything Else - Eun Jung and Sang Nyeon
Extraordinary Attorney Woo - Young Woo and Geu Ra Mi
The Red Sleeve - Deok Im and her court ladies
Thirty-Nine - Mi-jo, Chan-young and Joo-hee
Because This Is My First Life - Ji-ho, Ho-rang and Su-ji
