Despite thoroughly cleaning and lubricating my hood latch, I could never get the pull tab in the car to retract, and had to manually depress one of the latches so get it to lock shut. I never felt like replacing the whole cable, so I lived with it. Dawned on me today that I could squeeze a fishing weight on to the end to shorten the effective cable length. Quick and easy fix that will hopefully stand the test of time.
