Told to empty/disinfect litter boxes a week after finishing coccidia treatment

Just wanted to make sure this is correct or I didn’t misunderstand. We are treating all the cats in our house with Albon for 5 days and the vet said a week after that to do the litter boxes. Does this make sense and how will they not reinfect themselves in that period?

Two 1 y/o and one 3 y/o cat, female, spayed, 8-13 pound DSHs. Presented with yellow liquid diarrhea. Fecal didn’t find anything but coccidia suspected.

3 indoor, vaccinated cats got horrible diarrhea within days of each other.

1 yo, 1 yo, 3 yo. All female and spayed weighing between 8-13 lbs. One of the youngest got diarrhea 3-4 days ago then the others after. Eating, drinking, playing and acting normally otherwise. The two 1 yos have it the worst by far. They have a 7 yo brother who, as of yet, seems unaffected.

They had fecals done at the vet yesterday and they didn’t find anything. They sent it off to the lab for a better test but we’re waiting on results.

*In the meantime the vet has us treating every cat in the house for coccidia* on a hunch because of yellow stools. They’ve been getting Albon by weight since yesterday for a planned 5 days, and Pro Pectalin every 8 hours.

The 3 yo eats different food than the others and no new bags opened before this so we don’t suspect food contamination.

The diarrhea is so bad that one lost control of her bowels in the litter box today and turned circles while confused and… spraying… diarrhea. We can’t rest and feel like we have to watch them 24/7 because it’s disaster material. It’s only been a day and a half of medicine but I’m feeling hopeless with no improvement or even certainty we’re treating the right thing.

Is it just a waiting game now? Are we missing anything?

3, F, spayed DSH

Initial symptoms were vomiting and not eating. We visited with her last night and couldn’t get her to eat. She was clearly quite afraid to be there. They gave her an appetite stimulant after we left and she didn’t eat overnight.

Bloodwork clear twice, x-rays clear, no vomiting since intake and anti-nausea meds.

They acted like they wanted to keep her yet again today with this wait and see approach but as she’ll be going on three days without food by then I’m kind of uncomfortable with the approach and would like to see if she’d eat at home. Is this something I should push for? I feel like there is no plan and she may just be too afraid to eat there.
