Help! Pooping outside of litter box

My wife and I are getting desperate. We have two cats around 3.5 years old who are litter sisters. For the past 2 years, one of our cats has been pooping outside of the litter box. We’ve tried everything - different litters, more litter boxes, different types of litter boxes, different litter locations, several vet visits, stool samples, cat therapists, prescription food, and most recently amitriptyline. None of these have worked. We’ve ruled out any sort of digestive issue or pain while pooping, and believe it’s a psychological issue.

One week ago, our second cat started pooping outside of the litter box as well. Twice now, she’s pooped on top of us in bed late at night and early in the morning.

Both cats get the zoomies before pooping, poop, and then sprint away afterwards. It’s almost as if they are scared of pooping. Luckily, both cats have no problem peeing in the litter boxes, it’s only pooping that is an issue.

We just ordered a Whisker Litter Robot to give that a shot, but are truly at a loss. We don’t know what else to try. Now with two cats pooping (one pooping literally on top of us), re-homing is a serious consideration. If anyone has been through this before and has any recommendations, we’d be super grateful for your input
