Hi! I'm a current freshman in undergrad and have around 450+ hours as a kennel tech at a cats and dogs vet clinic. Although I was a kennel tech, most of my role was assisting (holding animals during procedures, preparing vaccines, assisting during dentals, and observing surgeries) so I believe it counts as veterinary hours. I have the opportunity to continue this opportunity during the summer for more hours (I think I would technically be classified as an intern and I will still be getting paid ) and will hopefully learn more assisting activites but I'm wondering if I need to be a veterinary assitant to be competitive for vet school. I know that I need more diverse hours as well which I am also working on but my main concern is if I need to be a veterinary assistant as all of the job listings I see require full time which I can't as I don't live near my school so during summers I would not be able to work. Any insight is appreciated thank you!
