Student worry

I’m really torn between taking BSED English or BSA and I honestly don’t know what to choose anymore.

Being an English teacher was actually my first choice ever since. I genuinely love English, literature, writing, public speaking, and the idea of teaching students someday. I can really picture myself in a classroom and I think teaching fits my personality more.

I also know that if I ever pursue teaching, I wouldn’t just stop at being a teacher forever. I’d probably try aiming higher too, like becoming a department head or even a principal someday for better salary and career growth.

I’ve also thought about teaching English abroad someday, especially in Japan. The idea of teaching while experiencing another country and culture honestly sounds really meaningful to me, and I heard English teachers abroad can earn better too compared to teaching locally.

But lately, reality has been hitting me hard. I keep hearing and reading about how teachers are underpaid, overworked, and financially struggling, especially here in the Philippines. It scares me because as much as I want to follow my passion, I also want financial stability in the future.

That’s why I started considering BSA. I’ve heard accountants can earn well, especially if they become CPAs or work abroad/corporate. The thing is, I’m not naturally passionate about accounting the same way I am with English, but I’m willing to learn and study hard if it means having a more stable future financially.

Now I’m stuck between:

- choosing the course I truly love (BSED English)

- or choosing the practical path (BSA)

Another thing I’ve been thinking about is this:

Should I just pursue BSED English first, work as a teacher for maybe 2 years, save up money, then study accounting afterward while teaching?

I don’t know if that’s realistic or if I’m just making life harder for myself 😭

Has anyone here experienced something similar? Especially people who chose between passion and practicality? I’d really appreciate honest advice..
