My situation is a bit odd.

So I have a problem. I’m prior service and just reenlisted. Last year I ETSed from the reserves during the government shutdown. Usually we will go to drill shutdown or not but not that year. So when the contract was up I didn’t bother going back. Not even to finish my paperwork. That is biting me in the ass now. My most recent DD214 was from when I graduated basic training. I never out processed properly from my last unit. I was just happy to never see them again.

Civilian life has left a lot to be desired so I’m going active. Issue is despite getting out last year they want to send me back through basic training for 17 weeks of OSUT. And my paperwork is also saying I’m still in the reserves for some reason. They even made me sign a request for release from that. Even though we went through an episode just trying to get me out my last unit on paper.

I’m going as a Combat engineer and that job training should only last 4 weeks not 17. I believe it’s my paperwork screwing me. The recruiter is saying because I’m prior service once I get there they’ll put me in a class starting their job training. He said that there isn’t a setting in the system to go to OSUT partially. So on paper I’m going for the whole thing but in actuality I won’t. I’m not the first prior service to go to OSUT so I’m not satisfied with “eh don’t worry about it.”

I’ve been in the army a few years. Not once has any procedure been “we’ll figure it out when you get here.” So I think I can be forgiven for not trusting that. But what do y’all think?
