Hi! I wanted to see if there are successful visitor visa applications of elderly parents who are trying to visit their only child (temporary work visa) in Australia? For context, my parents (68 retired and 64yo working) applied for tourist stream 600 visa but their applications were refused (copied below). Their visit was supposed to be for 1.5weeks only and to attend my uni graduation and I provided my financial/employment documents as their sponsor. They also provided bank/employment/retirement/asset ownership certifications. I understand that having an only child can be tagged as a major risk, but I want to see if there are people who are in similar situations and what they’ve done about it. We are thinking of reapplying so any advice is helpful! Thank you :)

Reason for refusal:

I note that the applicant has indicated that they do not have any immediate family members residing in the [country - removed for privacy but it is in SEA], which may otherwise constitute an incentive for them to return to their country of residence. I also note that the applicant has indicated that they have family members residing in Australia. In the context of the applicant's family ties to Australia - and lack of family ties to their home country - I have serious concerns that the applicant may seek to prolong their stay in Australia or lack sufficient incentive to depart at the end of their proposed visit.

I also considered the offer of support from the declared onshore contact in Australia. Generally, however, offers of support or guarantees given from family and friends in Australia are not sufficient evidence of a genuine temporary stay. The onus is on the applicant to satisfy the decision maker that the applicant intends only to stay temporarily in Australia.

I am not satisfied that the applicant's personal circumstances support their claim that they intend to temporarily stay in Australia as a genuine visitor. Therefore, I find that they do not meet clause 600.211.

After considering the information provided, I am not satisfied that the applicant genuinely intends to stay temporarily in Australia for the purposes set out above.
