Im 21M and currently overweight. I’ve been lifting weights for a few years, but I ignored my overall fitness for some time. Now I’m getting back on track with regular strength training and eating right, and I want to include running in my routine to actually improve my health.

The issue is that whenever I start running, after a while I get a very sharp pain on the inner side of my shins. It makes me feel like my body isn’t able to handle the stress of lifting and running together.

My main focus is still the gym, but I’d like to be able to run a 5K in around 30–35 minutes. Is that an unrealistic goal given my current situation?

What kind of program or approach should I follow to balance both without getting injured?
