Latest firmware eating through batteries

I have six H5108 thermometers scattered around the house and connected to Home Assistant. I recently noticed that firmware update 1.00.19 was available, so I updated all of them on April 12. I was surprised to see that the firmware update seemed to burn through the batteries, since their battery life had been generally pretty good before that, but it immediately dropped them all from 50-60% down to 20-30%. I assumed that a firmware update just used a lot of power, so I replaced all the batteries and carried on. Unfortunately, even after putting freshly-charged (some brand new) batteries in all of them, they all only showed about 60% and then a week later, some were already back down to my 30% threshold for getting recharge alerts.

Attached is the graph from Home Assistant of all of their charge levels. As you can see, they have all been discharging way faster since the firmware update and never seem to show higher than 70%. I've been playing whack-a:mole replacing batteries every couple days. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a known issue with the latest firmware? Is it just reading the levels wrong and I need to add 40% to all the values? Are they no longer compatible with rechargeable batteries?

Thanks, everyone!
