I'm currently trying to remove a (now deceased) family member's apple account and reset his iPhone. Unfortunately, everything requires face ID due to stolen device protection being enabled. Normally I'd be able to turn this off by putting in the Apple ID pass-code and doing 2fa through text, but we no longer have access to the phone line.

I went to my local apple store, and they just gave me a link to apple's website where they said we could send over some documents and get it disabled. I sent Apple the death certificate and other documents through their website and all they said was that activation lock wasn't enabled and I had to reset the phone through the apple accessories app. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work, as it requires updating the phone which doesn't seem to be working though the phone or computer, even when in recovery mode.

I then tried erasing the phone though icloud / find but unfortunately it requires 2fa and in order to get the code from the phone it seems to require face ID. SMS seems to be the only other option and as I mentioned before, we no longer have access to the phone line.

This has been an ongoing issue for about a couple days now, unfortunately my iPhone got destroyed (which is what prompted this whole process) so this is somewhat time sensitive, which kinda rules out account recovery.
