Opinion: Next season's record is going to be deceivingly low for a lot of teams and everyone is going to draw the wrong conclusions from it

Due to the new lottery rules 51-53 wins is about = to 60 wins last season.

There is usually 5-6 tanking teams each year, and by the All-star break there is usually 10 tanking teams, if not more.

The east in particular is very competitive with

  • Indy getting Hali back.
  • Atlanta took 2 games off the Knicks in the playoffs.
  • Charlotte may still be good.
  • Washington with Trae/AD/Dybansta may be decent.
  • Sixers are better.
  • Miami all in with Giannis
  • Raptors going all in with Kawhi
  • Magic is still all in
  • I didnt even list the actual good teams: Knicks/Cavs/Pistons/Celtics

For example, next season people are going to claim things like "Lakers are better with Lebron!" because of the record being worse, and that sort of thing will happen to every team. All sorts of wrong conclusions are going to be drawn without factoring in the dramatic changes in the rules which immediately now so many teams are "going for it".

Brad Steven's won executive of the year in 2024 for assembling a historically good team around the Jays, he knew exactly what to do. He won again in 2026 for the way he managed the 2nd apron post championship. He knew exactly how to handle it.

This guy is insanely smart to win 2 of the last 3 executive awards, 1 for winning, and 1 for deconconstructing.

We are *still deconstructing*

Jaylen ---> Cap Space/Trade --> Elite Big slotting in Jaylens money is a main part of that rebuild.

We are lucky to have Brad, he got us a ring and will get us another one no doubt. This is a shrewd move that someone who is confident at the highest level would make. Just like trading Smart to make space for KP. We have to get off Jaylen before we can bring in that elite big.

Opinion: 50 wins next season = 60 wins from last season

I think every single good team has inflated wins due to 10 teams tanking every year.

So now with tanking being almost pointless in many cases (still applies in rare cases) there is going to be much more balanced win loss records.

I think next season, people are going to be shocked at the low win totals for the tops seeds and the relatively thin margins between ranks.

Prediction: People are going to use next years records as indications for all sorts of things and completely ignore the new anti tanking rules and constantly misconstrue what any of it means.
For example: The Lakers are so much better when they had Lebron, they had a better record!

We're going to be hearing that for like every single team.
