Hey everyone,
I’m currently living in the EU and was planning to apply for Canadian PR, but last year I was caught while driving and the case is still ongoing in court.
From the research I’ve done so far, it seems like a DUI charge or conviction can seriously affect PR eligibility and could potentially lead to an automatic rejection.
Because of that, I’m trying to understand what my realistic options are moving forward.
I do have a solicitor representing me and I plan on fighting the case, but I’m also trying to be realistic since blood samples were taken at the time.
So I wanted to ask:
- If you were in my position, would you wait for the court outcome before applying for PR?
- Would it still make sense to apply now anyway?
- Or is waiting several years until the offence is considered “spent”(5 years) the smarter option?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through something similar, knows someone who has or understands the Canadian immigration/legal side of this.
Thanks in advance.
