Why didn't Julian experience discrimination in "far beyond the stars," ?
Apologies if this has been asked already.
I know that the episode mostly focuses on racism against African American people, but other forms of discrimination are depicted, like the sexism Kira faces.
Given India's/Pakistan's colonial history, and general attitudes of whiteness being the ideal, why isn’t Julian subjected to racism the way other dark skinned characters are? Especially with a foreign/non-european name like "Bashir,"?
Edit;
As many have pointed out, his name was "Julian Eaton" not Bashir in this episode. My mistake! It must've completely gone over my head!
Also, I'm thrilled by the amount of interesting perspectives and opinions! Thanks for all the engagement guys, nothing makes me happier than having an excuse to think and talk about deep space nine!
