Remember the 728i Sport from last year? (of course you don't) but...
After 11 months as a "when we have time" car at a local specialist and list of fixes, it's back!
Going away it had a "trans fail safe" messages and would go only into 3rd ("limp mode"). would start but wouldn't idle until warmed up for 10mins with foot on the throttle. Brakes crumbled and deposited themselves on the driveway as it was pulled from the garage. Various bits were in the trunk waiting to be refitted after the rear coils were replaced some years ago.
So... briefly:
- new discs and pads all round,
- rear rose joints,
- replacement MAF,
- new ABS pre-charge pump,
- transmission service,
- gear selector with
- new master cylinder
- of course new fluids and many brake bleeds to get a firm pedal.
The specialists left the engine bay pristine, beautifully cleaned up and everything wrapped, and tied better than we ever knew it.
It now runs and stops beautifully.. But.. still has the ABS DSC lights come on and the rear wings have some bad rust to be resolved. The owner (my Dad) has it back in advance of his 80th birthday and will run it for a bit before we go back to fix those things over winter (repaired ABS ECU maybe?)
We stopped for petrol just after picking it up and a stranger stopped at the petrol station to say what a lovely car it was and that we should keep it running.
