Chassis number missing
Hi,
Little bit intro about myself., i have less knowledge on cars. I used to drive my wife's brothers car but when he needed it. I thought of taking second hand car till there is clarity which car is good for longer use either petrol or diesel or EV
So checked few and Recently i purchased chevrolet beat 2010 model which was pretty much in good condition, got renewed fitness to 2031 in Aug 2026 by prev owner.
When i first saw the car, i drove. Opened the bonnet and saw the vin plate and after checking the body parts were in okay condition. Finalized the deal. Paid the amount and took the car home the next day.
Now, i called a mechanic to inspect the car and let me know what all fix is required. During the inspection he pointed that there should be chassis number under the rear seat for chevrolet beat which is missing[OC] . I was too shocked because i was not aware. I thought there will be only one chassis present under the bonnet for all the cars but now i learnt it hard way that is not the truth.
I asked my prev owner, did he know about this and how was he able to pass the fitness test without chassis number. To that his reply was inspector saw the chassis number under the bonnet and passed and he is not aware of the chassis under the rear seat.
Im the 5th owner.. So not sure if he tampered or the ones before him. There are rusts in interior body my guess is someone when trying to scrap the rust the chasis number must have gone so may not be tampered intentionally
Now i have the vin plate that contains chassis and engine number under the bonnet but chassis number etched under the seat is missing. Kindly advise hw this issue can be resolved in legal and proper way.
