The End of Oak Street review

While easily better than the recent entries in the Jurassic World series, The End of Oak Street just misses out on being the next classic dinosaur survival thriller. It was alright, albeit a bit basic. While The plot is kinda predictable, there are a few good twists and shocks scattered in. I felt the length was good for this film as it never really drags. Michael Giacchinos score is phenomenal and feels like a combination of his score from Tomorrowland and LOST. That said, there is definitely some bad in this movie. There is this underlying family drama plot that just feels underdeveloped. I'm also not a big fan of how the dinosaurs look. The feathers are fine, but some of the dinos just looked off. The plot is occasionally moved forward by stupid character decisions and needless conflict with other family members. Honestly, you could wait for this to hit streaming before seeing it.

Spiderman: Brand New Day review

After a shaky few years, Marvel's most recent movie is one of the franchises best and hits the quality we know they are capable of. I really like how street level this one was. Fighting planet ending threats is fine every now again, but I feel Spiderman shines best when he's not much more than your friendly neighborhood hero and Brand New Day shows exactly why. That said, I do think it's puzzling that they release this movie with such a small scale right before Doomsday. Tom Holland shows once again that he is the perfect choice for Spiderman and really showed off the Characters emotional depth. Zendaya is also great again as MJ. The scenes between the two of them were some of my favorites. The run time of this movie was perfect and gave the movie time to fully explore and flesh out its plot and themes. There aren't many things I didn't like about the film, but the main one was that I wish they would've spent more time on Peters's metamorphosis and getting his powers.

The Odyssey (2026) review

Christopher Nolan's take on the famous Greek epic by Homer is great, but not perfect. I felt the movie was really good, but seemed like a step down from Nolan's last outing with Oppenheimer. The story of the movie does make some departures from the original epic, but they work for this adaptation. The performances by much of the cast were top tier. Matt Damon is incredible as Odysseus. Charlize Theron as Calypso is fantastic and really sells an alluring conflicted portrayal of the enchantress. Himesh Patel delivers yet another great performance, and Robert Pattinson again proves he is the most talented actor of his generation. Outside of the cast, I loved the practical sets. It really helps the movie feel more alive and real. I also liked the costuming for the most part. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Ludwig Göransson's score. While the score for the first half of the movie was largely forgettable, the second half was as perfect as one can be. The siren scene in particular was phenomenal in both the music and sound mixing, and rivals the juke joint dance scene from Sinners. Another scene that I loved was Zeus' Storm. The music. The dark claustrophobic visuals, only occasionally being lit up by blinding flashes of lightning. It is perfect and a scene I will remember for a long time to come. While there are many great things about this movie, there are a few things holding it back. I already mentioned the lackluster score in the first half of the movie, but the run time is also a bit of an issue. It goes just a bit too long and probably could've done with shaving off maybe 10 minutes. I also would have liked the movie to have a bit more color. The darker color pallet used was fine, but I just can't help but feel that a few splashes of color here and there would've helped.

Supergirl review

Supergirl doesn't shine as bright as Superman, but it still carves out its own worthwhile place in the new DCU. I thought the movie was good. It wasn't great, it didn't blow my socks off, but it was still good and enjoyable, and that's ok. Milly Alcock is perfect as Supergirl. She's charming, brings some depth to the character, and really stands out in the movies more emotional scenes. But Supergirl is not the only perfect casting in this movie. Jason Momoa as Lobo is phenomenal and is a true joy every time he's on screen. This being a superhero movie, there are plenty of fights and they are fantastic and well choreographed. The villain is alright. He's not physically imposing, but his threat comes from him almost always making sure he has the upper hand in a fight. I loved the wide array of aliens shown in the movie and love that for the most part they're practical effects and not totally CGI. Speaking of CGI, it was just ok. For the most part it was good, but there are a couple of scenes that could've used a bit more polish. The music was alright, nothing too memorable, however the song they used for the big climax scene was a big miss. I felt the length and pace of the story were good. It doesn't feel too long and slow or too short and fast. The script is fine and most of the jokes landed well. Overall, it's a solid second entry in the DCU and I recommend you give it a watch

Toy Story 5 review

The latest entry in the long running Pixar franchise is a triumphant return to form. I really liked this one. I'm not a fan of Toy Story 4 and felt that that movie left the franchise on a bad note, but this latest entry was certainly better and very much on par with the first 3 movies. Similar to how Toy Story 2 is a Woody story, Toy Story 5 is a Jessie story, delving deeper into her past with her original owner, Emily. I felt the plot was good and very relevant to today, with some good twists to keep it from being too predictable. I felt the message of this movie was excellent and am glad to see this franchise stick to its central theme, kids need to play. There were plenty of hard hitting emotional moments, just as has been expected of Disney movies in the past. The new characters were good additions and didn't feel out of place or like gimmicks. Also the B plot was great, focusing on a platoon of new high tech Buzz figures as they try to return to Star Command. The humor in the movie was good and offered something for both adults and kids. I definitely recommend it for families or any one who's seen the others. You won't be disappointed.

Backrooms review

It's like describing a dog to someone who's never seen one, and then asking them to draw it. Backrooms is about a hidden liminal space a furniture store owner (Chiwetel Ejiofor) discovers and the mystery and danger hidden within that space. The movie was unsettling and also somewhat disorienting, which while it would take away from other films, is perfect for a movie about the backrooms. There was a lot of mystery and the film does a great job of holding your attention through the entire run time. Chiwetel Ejiofor does a good job in his role, and you can really feel the desperation and emotion in his performance. As for a directorial debut for Kane Parsons, he did a fantastic job. It's not perfect, but he hit the tone, feel, and look of what this movie needed to be and he deserves major credit for that.

Masters of the Universe review

By the power of Grayskull, 2026's Masters of the Universe has the power! Masters of the Universe is the story of Adam (Nicholas Galitzine), Prince of Eternia, who must now return home after being sent away as a child and harness the might of the Sword of Power to save his home world from the evil Skeletor (Jared Leto). This movie was a ton of fun and well made. It was the perfect blend of the 80s and the modern era. Despite not knowing much about the Masters of the Universe franchise, you could really feel the respect and reverence the people who made this movie have for the source material. It doesn't take itself too seriously and has quite a bit of surprisingly good humor. The soundtrack is incredible. Both the songs and score are perfect for this movie, and the theme, featuring Brian May of Queen, is very memorable with people humming it as they were leaving the theater. Most all of the costuming was practical and looked very good on screen. With this being a sword and sorcery movie there are plenty of action scenes. The fights were well choreographed and the effects looked good, to the point you could really feel the power when He-Man fights. Both the performances of Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms and Jared Leto as Skeletor were great standouts in the story. If you're a fan of He-Man, the 80s, or just looking for a fun time at the movies, you're definitely gonna want to check this one out.
