I actually trust Motorola over Samsung when it comes to stylus more than nebulous claims about OS update speeds. I believe Samsung intends to kill S Pen on all devices eventually. You can't even buy S Pen Pro anymore.

For context, I've been using Samsung phones since the Galaxy S6 and rarely ever bought other phones, so it takes a lot for me to want to ditch Samsung.

If we are talking about trust, Samsung has shown itself to be EXTREMELY untrustworthy when it comes to stylus support. I value that way more than some nebulous claims that other manufacturers might not provide OS updates as quickly.

The biggest way that you can tell if a manufacturer intends to support their current/new products is how they support their older products. Right now, I DO NOT trust that Samsung will bring back the S Pen on future Folds or TriFolds. I expect them to eventually kill the S Pen in their S series phones and maybe even their tablets.

Having stylus support is especially important for foldables since active third party styluses seem to not work well (tested on Fold 5 and 6).

THIS is why I'm interested in the Razr Fold. Not just because it has a stylus with remote shutter button while the Fold 7 (and likely 8) killed the S Pen, but because I don't trust that Samsung will bring back the S Pen on the Fold 9 or 10. I'd rather switch platforms to one that doesn't antagonize the customer by killing features and gaslighting the public by claiming that nobody uses it.

. .

Meanwhile, Motorola has been having stylus support even in their budget phones for awhile. I'd much rather trust Motorola than Samsung. If I knew for sure that Samsung is bringing back the S Pen on Fold 9 for example, I'd buy the Fold 8 just so that I don't need to learn a different phone's OS setup, but I highly doubt that.

I believe that the reason why Samsung killed the Bluetooth functionality of the S Pen starting with the S25 Ultra and Tab S11 series is to wean customers off of the S Pen, to get them used to not using it. It's boiling the frog in the pot. Even if it was a cost-cutting measure, you can't connect an S Pen Pro to the S25 Ultra or Tab S11 series to get back the Bluetooth features.

The timeline: First, the Note series was killed, but it could be argued that the S series and Folds (starting with Fold 3) took its place because they support S Pen. Then, Bluetooth features killed in S25 Ultra and Tab S11 series with no option for S Pen Pro's Bluetooth features. Then, S Pen killed on Fold 6 Special Edition to make it thinner. Then, S Pen killed on Fold 7 to make it thinner. Then, no S Pen on Trifold. Then, at some point, S Pen Pro was quietly discontinued and replacement tips were NEVER officially available.

I actually bought the Fold 6 when the Fold 7 was coming soon specifically because of the rumors of killed S Pen on Fold 7 combined with the precedent of killed S Pen on Fold 6 Special Edition.

. . .

Even if it was absolutely true that people hardly use the S Pen, it's a kind of thing that most people might rarely use, but REALLY need it when you need it, like the ability to install apps from outside of the official app stores. For me personally, I use the stylus just as a precise input. I don't even draw. I constantly use my S Pen on a daily basis.
