Fold 5 bought December 2023. Is it time to upgrade already?
I have developers option on before and after update.
Before update, if I watched something on Netflix, and opened the phone for the big screen, video would reload start over from where I originally started watching, hours before multiple episodes in the past.
This really only happened on streaming services like prime, Netflix, HBO. I believe the change in DPI caused a little chaos when opening and closing.
I had dpi set to maybe 400 on front and I forgot the unfolded. It wasn't stock. I tried stock values I found online, but that doesn't help my issue
After 8.5 video and app playback is seamless when opening and closing, but the front display is set to 550 and 501 unfolded.
Does anyone know a proper combo that will give seamless playback and be not so small on front screen?
I'm sure this gets asked quite a bit, but I had the Fold 7 in my cart ready to go until my wife mentioned the 8 is right around the corner. I've never had a fold before so I'm just so damn excited to get one.
But after looking into it I'm seeing the 8 will have better battery life.
Does anyone know how well Verizon's promos are? My Galaxy s23 was going to take $900 off the fold 7. As soon as the 8 launches can I expect the same kind of trade in deal locked in for 36 months?
And will the 8 be around the same price?
Sorry if this gets asked a lot. I never really pay attention to upcoming phones like this.
I have had the fold 5 since it was released and its seen better days, i am visually impaired so the big inner screen is ideal for me! I'm just wondering if it would be worth the upgrade to the fold 8 or 8 wide from my fold 5? Are the screens the same size? Ir is there another foldable phone that wpuld be better?
Hello everyone, I need your help. I named my Z Fold 7 "Optimus Prime", since it transforms from a phone into a tablet. I have dormouse the transforming spund as an MP3. Is it in any way possible to have the "transforming sound" play each time I fold or unfold my phone? Thank you in advance.
For context, I've been using Samsung phones since the Galaxy S6 and rarely ever bought other phones, so it takes a lot for me to want to ditch Samsung.
If we are talking about trust, Samsung has shown itself to be EXTREMELY untrustworthy when it comes to stylus support. I value that way more than some nebulous claims that other manufacturers might not provide OS updates as quickly.
The biggest way that you can tell if a manufacturer intends to support their current/new products is how they support their older products. Right now, I DO NOT trust that Samsung will bring back the S Pen on future Folds or TriFolds. I expect them to eventually kill the S Pen in their S series phones and maybe even their tablets.
Having stylus support is especially important for foldables since active third party styluses seem to not work well (tested on Fold 5 and 6).
THIS is why I'm interested in the Razr Fold. Not just because it has a stylus with remote shutter button while the Fold 7 (and likely 8) killed the S Pen, but because I don't trust that Samsung will bring back the S Pen on the Fold 9 or 10. I'd rather switch platforms to one that doesn't antagonize the customer by killing features and gaslighting the public by claiming that nobody uses it.
. .
Meanwhile, Motorola has been having stylus support even in their budget phones for awhile. I'd much rather trust Motorola than Samsung. If I knew for sure that Samsung is bringing back the S Pen on Fold 9 for example, I'd buy the Fold 8 just so that I don't need to learn a different phone's OS setup, but I highly doubt that.
I believe that the reason why Samsung killed the Bluetooth functionality of the S Pen starting with the S25 Ultra and Tab S11 series is to wean customers off of the S Pen, to get them used to not using it. It's boiling the frog in the pot. Even if it was a cost-cutting measure, you can't connect an S Pen Pro to the S25 Ultra or Tab S11 series to get back the Bluetooth features.
The timeline: First, the Note series was killed, but it could be argued that the S series and Folds (starting with Fold 3) took its place because they support S Pen. Then, Bluetooth features killed in S25 Ultra and Tab S11 series with no option for S Pen Pro's Bluetooth features. Then, S Pen killed on Fold 6 Special Edition to make it thinner. Then, S Pen killed on Fold 7 to make it thinner. Then, no S Pen on Trifold. Then, at some point, S Pen Pro was quietly discontinued and replacement tips were NEVER officially available.
I actually bought the Fold 6 when the Fold 7 was coming soon specifically because of the rumors of killed S Pen on Fold 7 combined with the precedent of killed S Pen on Fold 6 Special Edition.
. . .
Even if it was absolutely true that people hardly use the S Pen, it's a kind of thing that most people might rarely use, but REALLY need it when you need it, like the ability to install apps from outside of the official app stores. For me personally, I use the stylus just as a precise input. I don't even draw. I constantly use my S Pen on a daily basis.
I haven't dived too deep into the settings, but can this crap be disabled?
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, it's the button to change the aspect ratio that's on almost all the preview screens.
Was stupid and sat in a folding chair with my phone in my back pocket. Broke the front screen. Front screen ended up separating completely so I removed it and 3D printed a translucent blank while I wait for my insurance replacement.
Every now and then these 2 lines parallel lines appear on the inner screen. They wipe off super easily but I am a bit worried. Anyone know what's going on here?
• Galaxy Z Fold8 • Galaxy Z Fold Wide
Galaxy Z Fold8: • 4.1mm unfolded thickness • 210g weight • 6.5" outer display • 8" inner display • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy • 200MP main camera • 10MP telephoto Camera sensor with 3x optical zoom • Upgraded 50MP ultra-wide • 5000mAh battery • 45W charging
Galaxy Z Fold Wide: • 7.6" 4:3 inner display • Dual 50MP cameras • 4800mAh battery • 45W charging • 200g weight
Samsung will be introducing 2 foldables for July 22 at Galaxy Unpacked 2026.
So samsung forced the new update through despite me dismissing it, which is par for the course. The only issue is that it has bricked my inner screen. It's not a low brightness problem. The screen is literally off. Before turning on the "carry over screen to cover screen" setting the blackness would carry over to the cover and i would have to hard restart my phone. Now with that setting on my cover screen works after closing the phone(even though the inner screen is still black).
Any one have any idea what I can do here?
I'm running 8.5 stable on T-mobile on an unlocked Fold 7. My phone ran flawlessly prior to the update but now has major problems.
Is anyone else having similar issues? There are other odd bugs here and there but this is the first time I've genuinely had major issues with an update.
After the One UI 8.5 update, it is no longer possible to set different DPI values for the inner and outer displays. I thought I would write a quick guide on how to work around this.
At the moment, the only way to change it is through wm density and ADB shell. However, this does not survive a reboot properly. After restarting, the wm density value of the currently active display is also applied to the inactive display.
This means that if the Fold is closed during boot, the outer display DPI is applied to the inner display as well, and vice versa.
The workaround I am currently using is Tasker together with Shizuku thedjichi.
I created a Tasker task and placed it as a shortcut on my home screen. The task changes the wm density value depending on whether the device is folded or unfolded.
The only downside is that you need to run it once after every reboot when you switch to the display that was not active during startup.
This could probably be automated, but the command can only be executed when the display you want to change is currently active. wm density does not allow changing the inactive display. That made full automation too complicated for me, and a shortcut is good enough for the few times per month that I actually reboot.
This requires Tasker (paid but awesome app): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm
First, install Shizuku thedjichi: https://github.com/thedjchi/Shizuku/releases
Then go to:
Control Shizuku with automation apps
There you will find the intents that can be used to start and stop Shizuku from Tasker.
After that, recreate the task from the code block below. Do not forget to enter the correct auth code in the intent extras.
The task simply does the following:
wm density value based on the fold stateYou can also run the task from the launcher by tapping the three dots in the top right and selecting Add to Launcher. You can pick a neat icon, I have created this using IconKitchen.
Stopping Shizuku again at the end makes sure that ADB USB debugging does not stay enabled permanently.
That is basically it. The setup is very simple, and the DPI values can be changed to whatever you prefer.
TL;DR: One UI 8.5 broke separate DPI settings for the inner and outer Fold displays. This workaround uses Tasker + Shizuku thedjichi to run the correct wm density command depending on whether the device is folded or unfolded. It needs to be run once after a reboot when switching to the display that was not active during startup.
Here is the task (do not forget to change "auth:XXXX" to your auth code and adjust DPI accordingly):

Shortened version because apparently the original post was too long and got removed by the mods.
On 3/30/2026 I accidentally closed my Galaxy Fold 7 on a tiny pebble. The outer screen still worked, but the inner screen started failing. I have Samsung Care+, so I thought this would be a straightforward repair.
Instead, this has turned into almost 2 months of absolute insanity.
First, Samsung support insisted I clear cache, troubleshoot software, and FACTORY RESET the phone even after I repeatedly explained the damage was PHYSICAL. Then the support rep asked me to send a PICTURE of the phone after resetting it. Not a screenshot. A literal picture of the phone.
Eventually I shipped the phone in, but Samsung accidentally processed it under Warranty instead of Care+, and from there the circus started.
Samsung had my phone for weeks with no updates. I approved almost $500 in repair charges after being told repairs would take about 3 days.
Still nothing happened.
Then on 5/6/2026 I called Samsung and was told my phone was “actively being repaired as we speak.”
About 15 minutes later I got a text saying my phone had shipped back to me.
At that point I knew the circus music was starting again.
The next day Samsung overnighted me… someone else’s phone.
My original phone:
What Samsung sent me:
Samsung then repeatedly insisted the dead black phone WAS my phone and demanded the IMEI from it even though the phone would not power on.
I eventually had to send pictures of my original Fold box showing the color and IMEI before Samsung finally admitted the black phone wasn’t mine.
Now almost 2 months later, Samsung STILL will not answer the most basic question:
DO THEY ACTUALLY HAVE MY PHONE?
When I call with the original service number, they just say the case is “cancelled.”
Ok… cancelled WHERE? WHERE IS THE PHONE?
No answer.
Samsung Executive Care has been useless. The case manager keeps asking the same questions repeatedly, sending irrelevant updates, and ignoring requests for escalation or management callbacks.
At one point Samsung even told me I should have included a LETTER inside the return box explaining the situation so they could understand what was going on.
Seriously.
Every time I contact Samsung I feel like I’m loading into a new side quest.
And the best part?
Even IF I eventually get my actual phone back, Samsung never repaired it. So after almost 2 months of this circus, I’ll STILL need to open another Care+ claim and start the repair process all over again.
At this point:
The phone repair process somehow became more broken than the phone itself.
I sent Samsung a broken Fold and somehow Samsung returned a broken customer.
Filed an insurance claim for my over two year old Fold 5 today...You think they will send me a Fold 6 or maybe even a 7 since mine is years old at this point and after 2 years and a few months will they still stock the 5s?
I am hoping they don't send another 5 since I have had it for 2+ years.. I don't want to upgrade because I finally paid this one off last month and an extra 50 dollars a month helps a lot in our current crazy economy... I am in the US if that makes any difference...
