How to deal with layoffs happening around you ?

From your experience, what are your tools dealing with layoffs and work shortage?
I am from a country in the middle east and since January things are not working well, we see consistent layoffs for artists with years of experience and studio closures (It used to be stable for years)

Taking production coordinator as a door

Hey,
I am 3D Animator and I am applying for a job in a local studio as a production coordinator
I have relevant experience to this role, and I have also worked within the CG pipeline in some indie projects and back in my school
from your experience what do I need to know to make the job?

Hero s story

Hey,

I want to hear from animators who were genuinely bad at first and left school with bad skills but kept doing it until they got hired

If that's you, I'd love to know:

  • How long did it realistically take?
  • How did you deal with the discouragement?
  • What do you wish someone had told you back then?

old animators — has the industry ever been this bad and recovered?

Right now feels like one of the darkest the animation industry has seen in a long time.

For those of you who've been doing this through multiple downturns — the early 2000s, the 2008 crash, the shift to streaming — did any of those moments feel like "this is it, it's over"? And did the work actually come back in a meaningful way ?
