Old wood
This pile of wood has been sitting behind my workplace since they bought it over 5 years ago. No one wants it, so I can take it if I choose; my stove is my primary heat source for very cold winters so I’m always on the lookout for wood.
Unknown age, broken tarp, multiple seasons of heavy snow thaw. The stack is on pallets, and overall besides the greying looks in decent condition; quick scan of the top few layers there’s no sign of rot, the wood seems solid.
There is some insect frass near the top, some small holes in the wood. No idea if it’s recent or long moved on.
My initial thought is to continue inspecting as I load, then only bring in to the house what I plan to burn. But it’s a ton of free wood so I’m obviously keen.
Thoughts? Take or leave it? Potential problems? Appreciate any input.
Edit: Amazing input, that’s cleared my mind about taking it so thanks everyone.
