Neighbour kicking off?

Not strictly home improvement but is part of a wider issue with neighbour getting annoyed at any kind of noise, including home improvement such as roof repairs, garage door replacement etc.

Is he being a knob or is his reaction warranted. This took place at 11:30 am on a Friday in a rural uk setting. I cut up some logs and chopped some for 30mins. Yesterday we had the garage door replaced. They slam doors and make comments whenever do make any kind of noise but today it escalated.

*Note - they don’t work nights. He’s unemployed she works from home. He was out front after and I said if you’ve got an issue don’t shout and swear at me over the hedge come round. I was reasonable with them and they backed down a bit but ultimately don’t want me chopping logs ever. He said he remembers when I did it last summer and it annoyed him.

He tried to tell me to buy pre chopped logs.

Firewood help

Got some wood from a friend's backyard, don't know what it is but I like the way it burns! Any ideas what type it is?

Learned my lesson stacking too close to shed, looking for advice cleaning rat poop.

Just like the title states, I wasn’t aware that stacking near a shed was a big “no no” and now have a rat has pooped all over my wood and I’m sure is nested nearby.

I am needing to clean this off and move this to another spot, any recommendations on cleaning the rat poop safely? And making sure it safe to burn?

I kinda hate airial fireworks now.

So last night I was celebrating the 4th with my family we where doing small fountains and sparklers well our family business is selling firewood so the loy next door has all of our wood on it and our neighborswhere lighting airal fireworks (witch are illegal in the city) one of them almost burnt $11,000 of dry walnut (walnut is hard to get in Idaho) but luckily I had a bucket of water that I poured on it that gave me enough time to get a hose on it and put it out. In short don't light airial fireworks where your not supposed to or else you could ruin somebody's livelihood.

What causes this?

I picked up a Stihl MS 250 from a guy for cheap the other week. Put a new chain on it, and took it out to cut a downed tree on the property. What causes the cut to look like this? Are these chains just junk (got them on amazon)?

Today, a bit late, we finished stacking the last of the fresh firewood supply for next season. You can see some wood from last season at the end, and there's a huge stack on the other side of the house, too. Feels good to be prepared!

First time storing wood at my house and am getting mold growth. Restock of remove shed door?

House came with a wood shed so this year I bought and stacked 3m3 of kiln dried pine and Oregon. It's kept a foot/300mm off the house walls. It's stacked onto concrete pavers. Had it in there maybe 2 months and its starting to get some mold growth. The shed isn't airtight but obviously isn't very open to the outdoors. I live in NZ so its winter here.

Should I restack it off the ground and / or remove the shed door to get more airflow?

Any advice would be appreciated!

New rack!

Thanks to this sub for all the tips on building my own rack. Worked out perfectly. I added a couple of couple of modifications for stability. A stop on the bottom along the side and back of the center cinder block help hold the 2x4 in place.

I got fed up with running out of wood every winter as one rick just isn’t enough. Luckily, we don’t rely on wood for heat. It’s just for our fireplace, but I like to have one just about every night in the winter.

So built the rack on the right. Those dimensions equal a rick almost exactly, and then the store bought rack is obviously a rick. I’d like one more to really be able to stay ahead of the seasoning, so maybe this fall I’ll take that on.

The wood in the tall rack is all what I salvaged off the side of the road after the ice storm down here. A random mix of red oak, red maple, hackberry, magnolia, and lacebark elm. On the left is almost all red maple from a tree that my best friend lost in his yard. Hoping I can let most of that sit for a good 2 years before burning. But we’ll see.

Thanks to all for the help.

Dude, I think I'm falling in love with firewood !

Hey, how's it going, guys? I was just carving some useless stuff into a tree trunk, and I was wondering—to your knowledge, have electric chainsaws caught up to the ones with combustion engines? I have a few Makita and Ridgid power tools, and I was wondering if it's worth investing in them.

In your opinion, are they effective?

My body has rejoiced

I do a lot around the house and enjoy a fire during the cooler months. I have some eucalyptus and pine rounds that I can’t be bothered to deal with manually in this heat. Brought in some reinforcements and couldn’t be happier.

Walnut

Saved these logs from my brothers tree. Anything I can do with them or are they only firewood?

Ash - Store as rounds or splits?

My wood storage is filled for the next two years. But I have a ton of standing dead ash trees. I have some room to store more but not in my covered woodshed. It'll be off the ground, but will be there for a year or two. So, should I store it as rounds or go ahead and split it now?
