26/27 firewood

Here is 26 27 line up. Couple nice red oak. Dems special. I cut for 4 hours so far and saved my chips with a tarp..set it up ahead of time. I make one call and a truck comes and puts it here. Then i have a chainsaw and a wood splitter and make all the firewood to the size of my stove. 20" is the magic #. Get about 5 full cord for a g.

Wtf is this wood?

Almost impossible to split as the axe just sinks in... ive never seen this before. Kind of smells like a barn to be honest.

Logs Dropped! CT

I found a branch in the pile and it appears to be maple 🍁 leaves.

The arborist dropping off the wood called ahead and was very courteous. I didn't even expect them to pile the logs like this, so it's really nice.

5 or 6 loads later.... Big Red Oak!

This went so much better than I could have imagined! I got the email too expect a delivery. I called the Arborist and asked what to expect and he said Red Oak, and can I take bigger stuff and there is quite a bit. I said sure thing. The biggest diameter is over 40". I cleared away a smaller load and then he brought more. This is amazing! I will have enough here for the winter after next and into the next one after that. I definitely have my work cut out for me... pun intended.

is this better?

off the ground, not touching any wall (its a few inches off that fence) and 4 or 5 feet away from the house. i know its not pretty but im happy with it

Wood ID - New Jersey

The post says this is a redwood tree but it’s located in New Jersey. Can anyone confirm? Are they good firewood?

Is this pine?

This is from a blow down south of Mt Adams in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in southwestern Washington. About 24" at the base, relatively easy to split. Is it pine? I didn't think to look at needles.

Was told this was Elm… gut says maybe not?

Northeastern MA, would love any insight, normally I’m decent with an ID for our common hardwoods but a little confused. Just split a piece super green. Wasnt super easy but didn’t seem like normal elm horror stories you hear

Looking into getting into stump grinding, general advice.

I work 2 jobs in an unrelated field making good money. I currently make $234,400 w2 week on week off work schedule. On my off weeks I make 97k 1099.

I’m completely over my field, and I’m looking to convert my 1099 business to stump grinding and keep my w2.

I rented a machine (Vermeer SC 292) and was able to do 40ish stumps last week just to get familiar with a machine and the process. Most were grind and go’s off Facebook marketplace, some were work colleagues, two for my dad I did for free. After my gas and equipment rental I made $29 an hour which is fine. I made a lot more on the cleanup and backfill jobs.

I’m hoping to get to $40-50/hr with an optimized system, and aim for 25 hours a week on my off weeks. I own 2 houses in two different states (Ohio/Tennessee) and I’d like to go between them.

I’ve already purchased the following equipment:
7k trailer with side and back ramps
Billy goat lawn vacuum
Log splitter
3 chainsaws of various sizes
Power wheelbarrow
Compact tractor with loader/backhoe
Rakes and shovels

I’m looking at a low hour Bandit 2250 but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. It’s 17k.

The plan is to basically keep a pile of dirt at my house, load up the power barrel before I leave with the loader. Grind, rake, backfill, load the much in the power barrel, vacuum the lawn and seed grass.

Much disposal will go into the compost pile for my dad’s fields.

Ideally I’d like to be able to offer estimates off txt, as it seems that’s what the customer wants. This seems to be an unpopular opinion but it saved a lot of time on my end even if I underbid a job or two.

Marketing is a beast I have yet to write out a plan for. Facebook is unlikely to provide the steady work I need. I would appreciate any advice here.

All advice is welcome.
Thanks

This is why we can't have nice things

Wife wanted to learn how to the lawn mower, which I am all on board about. After going over the how things work and what to watch out for, I explicitly said "do not mow too close to things, we have the push mower". One pass and this happens.

Fortunately it just needed to be righted, but a handle I use to move it broke off. Oh well.
