Week 4 with slow biking progress

I began my 4th week today and I went on a long (for me) mountain bike ride with more climbing than I normally do. My legs felt like I had been riding for hours when I started up the first climb and they felt that way the entire ride, but I went slow and steady. I did not have to get off and walk at any point of the ride, which ended up being about 15 miles and 1700 ft of climbing. My times were depressing compared to the last time I rode at the same place, but I saw small improvements from my first week on tirz. I also pushed myself to “do it anyways” in spite of how I felt, and I even went into higher gears for some of the climbing. I kept popping stinger gummies, but I only had 4 total the entire ride and I didn’t feel like dying! It is definitely slow going, but I’m keeping at it! Fortunately, my husband is happy to get some extra rest while waiting for me to catch up! I used to be faster than him!!! Getting there….!

Second Week on the Tirz

All right. I absolutely loved the feedback I received from my first week post where I was bonking with every bike ride. I got my second shot on Tuesday, another 2.5 mg. I did not seem to have any effects on Tuesday or Wednesday, it seemed delayed this time until Thursday. I just went on a bike ride today, Friday, by myself with my dog because I didn’t want to have to slow down my friends. I was OK for a good 20 minutes. I had a really hard time eating this morning before the bike ride. Really hard time. I ate three shot blocks before the ride, and another two during the ride. I set myself up for failure because I really wanted to test my skills on some really technical mountain bike trails. My skills are awesome and I was really happy about that, unfortunately, the way out of the area with the really technical skills is a really technical uphill. I walked most of it, but I didn’t care. I had my dog with me and he needed to stop for water breaks anyways. We had a really nice time except for all of the poison ivy and bugs. I was glad to get past the climbing out section and get back to the easier uphill Jeep road. Back home I ate an entire turkey sandwich.

Still figuring things out. Taking things one day at a time, curbing my expectations and just doing things for fun.

First Week on Tirz

I started a compounded tirz last Tues afternoon and felt the hunger switch turn off maybe an hour after. I had a group mountain bike ride later that evening, it was about a two hour long ride, fast paced cardio for about 11 miles, only short little climbs, nothing long or sustained. My pace was great and I was keeping up with the E bikers on an analog bike lol.

I did CrossFit on Wednesday, which included some short runs and squats, in addition to other short efforts. I felt fine, I had to force myself to have a protein shake in the morning. The workout was as expected.

Thursday was hot and humid and I went for a group mountain bike ride with more climbing. I absolutely could not keep up with the group which is really unusual for me. I felt like I had absolutely no energy to be able to push the pedals up any incline at all. I ended up bailing because it was just too much for me. I also did not eat very much all day, and I did not have any carbohydrates.

Over the weekend, we had planned a camping bike trip with our group in Vermont with lots and lots of long sustained climbs. The first day ( Saturday) I had a terrible time keeping up, I still felt like I could barely climb at all. However, it was better than Thursday. Sunday was a small improvement. The only way I was able to do it at all was by to keep eating shop blocks. I had a whole packet of shot blocks and another packet of stinger shots, the first day, and a whole packet of stinger shots on Sunday. I still was not able to keep up or go to pace that is normal for me, but I was able to complete the ride on both days with approximately 12 miles and 2000 feet of climbing. But it felt pretty bad!

My question is, will this continue to improve, or should I adjust my expectations along with this treatment? I did not experience any other side effects except, of course, complete loss of appetite. I didn’t even want to drink beer! And I only wanted to have one cup of coffee in the morning.

Currently at a 2.5 mg dose weekly. Female 48 years old 30% bmi A1C 5.0 looking to get those numbers down.
