Safety/cleanup with Potassium Permanganate and Glycerin reaction question
Hey all,
I am planning to do the classic potassium permanganate and glycerin reaction soon to help teach a cousin about redox. I am no chemist, but I understand that when done outdoors with proper safety equipment and in small amounts that this is generally not a very dangerous reaction. Of course, I want to make I cover every base as far as safety goes, and I am finding it difficult to find good resources on cleanup. I understand that there will be solid potassium carbonate and manganese trioxide after the reaction, but I don't know the best way to go about disposing of that. I was hoping somebody more knowledgeable than me on this sub would be able to point me in the right direction. I do not want to do the experiment unless I know for certain that we can be as safe as can be. Thank you all so much!
