M.Sc. Physics at Jamia Millia Islamia

I’m an international student seriously considering joining Jamia Millia Islamia for the M.Sc. Physics program. I would really appreciate honest insights from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the department.

  1. What are the strongest research areas/themes in the Physics department?
  2. How active is the research culture for M.Sc. students? Are students encouraged to do research projects early? Can MSc students publish papers or work closely with professors?
  3. Where do graduates usually end up after the MSc? Do students get into strong PhD programs abroad? PhDs in UK?
  4. How rigorous/heavy is the coursework? Is it manageable? How mathematically demanding is it? How difficult are exams and grading?
  5. How should I prepare before joining to survive/thrive in the program?
  6. How approachable are the professors? Are they supportive toward students aiming for research careers?

I’d especially appreciate responses from alumni and anyone who pursued PhDs afterward.
