Shoutout to CSUSB EOPS for teaching a masterclass in bureaucratic gymnastics 🤸‍♂️

Shoutout to CSUSB EOPS for teaching a masterclass in bureaucratic gymnastics 🤸‍♂️

I just want to take a moment to publicly applaud the absolute geniuses over at the EOPS department. Your ability to weaponize your own administrative incompetence is truly an inspiration to us all.

Let’s recap this flawless timeline of events, shall we?

  • December: I reach out to join the program. I'm told, "Sorry, too late for Fall! You simply MUST try again in January." Perfect. Understandable. I can follow basic instructions.
  • January: I do exactly what I was told and apply. I am met with the resounding, majestic sound of absolute silence. No response, no update, just pure, unadulterated ghosting.
  • May: I finally get a response! And the verdict? "Oh, sorry, you’re already fully enrolled in classes for the semester, so you’re no longer eligible to join the program."

...Let that sink in, for a few minutes and let’s breathe

I am ineligible to join the program because time has passed. Time passed because you didn't answer my application for four months.

Who knew bureaucracy could be so efficient?

If anyone else is planning on applying to EOPS, make sure you bring a time machine. Apparently, it's a prerequisite.

Maybe my age and ethnicity played a role in their decisions. I'll leave that right there, because I forgot what climate I live in currently.

Anyone else getting the absolute runaround from CSUSB financial aid assistant staff?

Anyone else getting the absolute runaround from CSUSB financial aid assistant staff?

It is truly fascinating to watch the sheer level of inconsistency assistant staff manage to maintain when handling students inquiring about their financial futures. One would think that—just perhaps—they might possess the basic empathy required to put themselves in the shoes of someone concerned about their academic trajectory.

Every phone call, email, and in-person visit should theoretically be treated with the exact same energy and diligence they would desperately want while dealing with their own affairs. Instead, placing a student on hold only to return with some cockamamie excuse as to why basic paperwork and orders haven't been processed is, frankly, amateurish and inexcusable.

Has anyone else on here had this issue recently with them sitting on grants or blowing past their own promised deadlines? How long did it take for them to get their act together and resolve it for you?

Note: I am not berating them, I am stating my opinion of the office of Financial Aid and their handling of student's anxieties and concerns. The questions were about tuition concerns not disbursements.
