Few questions regarding becoming a prison officer

Im interested in doing this in the future I just have a few concerns that may have already ruled me out of the line of work.

Im currently 37. Shoplifting caution at 15, cannabis possession caution at 21, nothing since.

No debts

My eyesight isn’t great, is the test strict for this? Without my glasses it’s like Im underwater unless things are very close lol.

Anxiety and depression in the past on medical record.

Also how do you go through the recruitment process? I’ve seen some say it can take over a year, but im working at the moment & can’t afford to quit. Do you not start the training etc u till you’re guaranteed a job?

Im sure Im forgetting something

Also what are your experiences with assaults on staff? This is probably my biggest concern

Thanks

Hi.

im currently living in the south east & going through a divorce.
I have no skills on paper or qualifications so minimum wage is the only jobs available for the foreseeable future.

I dont think its possible to stay in this area, as much as i want to, its just unaffordable.

I dont have any family here other than 1 brother who id rather not move away from but realistically i cant see how i can stay in the area.

flat prices are a lot better in yorkshire & durham & im trying to find out about each and which would be better suited/most comfortable for me.

Im mainly concerned with not being able to find an entry level/minimum wage job, are there many available?
also im a pretty nervous/anxious man & safety is a big concern for me. which areas should i avoid? do you feel safe walking around alone?

Id also like to find & make friends - is there much of a community feel to durham? local activities, easy to make firends etc...

thanks
