Sharing informational video

Hi I recently started following “Matt” at Lily Clinic in Roanoke VA. I got this from FB. Do not know if he is on other social media. But he’s very good, informative, sharing, and is trying to bring the therapist community, the patient community, and the medical community together, so that the RIGHT lymphedema treatments can become more known and accessible.

Sharing in case it may be useful to any on the sub.

A lipodema flare can cause Xerosis (very dry skin)? Is this true for anyone ?

Around December 2025, I had a small patch of shingles. I get these from time to time due to my low immunity. I have several chronic conditions, lipodema is only one of them. Treatment was/is effective and I get better pretty quickly. As usual, my other conditions began flaring as a result of just about any virus.

Following the shingles, I started having contact dermatitis in my inner thighs from going to knees. I have never had this before in the severity that it was— so I figured I was in some kind of flare. it came and went and finally became moderate to severe.

Even though the dermatitis was clearing, the backs of my thighs had also became very painful, tender, and sore. It turns out to be xerosis. it is getting better with treatment.

I did not understand where this contact dermatitis was coming from, and certainly not where xerosis is coming from . A google search of a few articles indicates that lipodema flare can cause xerosis and likely the dermatitis (also severe). I need to check the lipodema foundation site but wondering what the lipodema community can share from experience.

QUESTIONS
Since I have never had skin issues from my advanced stage lipedema, this is new ro me

  1. has anyone else had this?

  2. Is there something I can ask the dr for in the future to help stop the inflammation due to flare? Something oral or an injection?

I cannot use oral aleve, Advil, or similar but I do it think they would be enough to work at the level needed.
