Ryan Caldwell book

Thought some people in here might be interested in this.

You might remember Ryan Caldwell from his days with Ulster and Ireland (and also playing in the prem with Bath and Exeter). He's the guy who got knocked out by Paul O'Connell in training. He's got a book coming out called White Lines and it's a class story.

Like a lot of players, rugby was his whole identity. When injury brought his career to an end, everything unravelled. What followed was addiction, prison and some incredibly dark times before he slowly managed to rebuild his life.

It's a really honest account of what can happen when elite sport ends and how difficult that transition can be. There are plenty of stories from his rugby career, but it's just as much about life away from the game.

Thought it might be of interest to a few people on here who remember watching him play (he was a second row who played from 2006-2016 or so.

The crash sites of Slieve Commedagh

If you ever climb Slieve Commedagh via the Glen River you'll pass pretty close to the two WW2 crash sites.

Pictures 1-4 Wellington Bomber X9820 crashed on 12th September 1943 on the northwest face. (Picture 4 is down in the Pot of Legawherry)

Approx location: https://goo.gl/maps/8mYvwswWxyWfNntH9

Pictures 5-9 Mosquito NS996 crashed on 12/13th January 1945 above the castles. The wreckage was pushed over the cliff so there's probably some wreckage around the bottom of the castles.

Firefighters are tackling a wildfire on the Mourne Mountains in County Down.

The blaze broke out on the Slievenaman Road in Newcastle.

It comes as a yellow warning for wildfires remains in place across Northern Ireland.

People are being asked to avoid the area.

NIFRS Group Commander Peter Blaney said the fire is burning over about 10 hectares.

He added that a lot of vegetation has been burnt, but that fire crews have the blaze under control.

"This is in the heart of the Mournes, so it has been affected by wildfires before," he said.

Resources from throughout Northern Ireland are involved, with 52 firefighters attending.

Six pumping appliances, a water tanker, an off-road vehicle, and a command unit are present.

Diversions are in place at the junction of Bryansford Road, Moyad Road and Trassey Road.
